Autumn

Joined the LOL 2/2007

IN MEMORY OF AUTUMN, WHO CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN SEPTEMBER 2011, AT AGE 15. Autumn joined her family in November 1998 at about two years old so she is about eleven now. She never had puppies of her own but she sure has been a good second Mom to her two new human brothers. She waits for them to come home from school every day and loves to greet her adopted Dad with a happy dance each evening (could food be far behind?). She enjoys visits to her Grammy’s farmhouse and loves to explore and, if possible, chase bubble bees. She is very careful about her figure but allows herself a pizza crust occasionally on Friday nights. She maintains her perfect weight with a banana snack each morning and green beans with dinner, her favorites! When any one of her family cracks open a banana she comes running! Her adoptive family feels that life wouldn’t be the same with out her and thanks LRR for the sweetest dog in the world! (LOL member since 2004, on web 02/07)

IN MEMORY OF DUSTY, WHO CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN SEPTEMBER 2009, AT THE AGE OF 12. Dusty is a Florida boy these days and enjoys life poolside – but not in the pool! He is not a swimmer. Dusty can tell time and knows exactly when it is time for dinner. Adopted at about age 18 months, he is now almost 10 years old. He is sleeping longer, but still knows everything that happens around the house. Dusty loves retrieving a tennis ball, but after 2 or 3 retrieves, it’s time for a rest. He also enjoys chasing critters around the pool, but has never caught one. When he has finished his exercise he settles into a comfortable place and tends to his bone collection. Dusty is loving life! (01/07)

IN MEMORY OF FLETCHY, WHO CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN JUNE 2012, AT AGE 12. Fletchy (originally Fletcher) was adopted from LRR in January 2005 and is now living with his adopted mommy, daddy and TWO other LRR graduates. With all this family, life is good! He is starting to show his age, with all the normal aches and pains that go along with it; there is still plenty of life in Fletchy, though – keeping all the neighborhood squirrels away is his sacred duty.

Fletchy, like any normal Lab, lives for food – his highly trained nose can detect even the smallest crumb. If his internal clock tells him it is breakfast or dinner time, he is the first to tell his parents about it. Between meals, practicing on small toys helps keep Fletchy’s chewing skills in top form. IN MEMORY OF BETSY. SHE CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN AUGUST 2007, AT THE AGE OF 13. Betsy was adopted in 2000 from LRR when she was about 6 years old. She definitely holds the title of “Most Traveled LOL Dog”!!!! Betsy has been to exotic Thailand, Bosnia, and other places. Right now she lives in Bosnia, but she is an All-American Lab who prefers the USA. Betsy lives with her adopted parents and two cats. Betsy’s favorite activities include raiding the cats’ dishes for those uneaten cat food morsels, barking and watching folks at the nearby bus stop, and sleeping. At her now “older” age, and due to health problems, she is willing to take slow walks around the garden or down the road with her adopted mother or go for a ride in the car. Betsy knows this is enough excitement for her! (11/06)

Tootsie

Joined the LOL 10/2006

Chocolate lab Tootsie is well-named—she’s the color of the popular candy! Adopted at age 3 years, Tootsie is now 7. Unlike the chubby candy, though, Tootsie is not chubby. She maintains her youthful figure and weight. Tootsie is an early riser and wants breakfast at 6 a.m. Then it is back to bed for a 2-hour nap. Next on her busy agenda is an exploration of the yard. Who knows what appeared since her last patrol? Tootsie and her siblings love to play together. They chase and stalk one another. Tootsie loves to toss her toys from side to side and loves a good tickle. But what really makes her happy is snuggling on the couch with Mom! (10/06)

IN MEMORY OF ISAAC, WHO CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN July 2011, AT AGE 12. Isaac was adopted in 2002 from LRR at age 3. Isaac is a typical Labbie in most ways: loves morning walks before breakfast, likes to play, loves being petted, etc. BUT Isaac is different in one way: he is musically inclined! He loves the piano when being played by his owner. When Isaac first came to his new household, he would get directly under the piano, lay down facing his owner, and then put his paw on top of her foot on the pedal while she played. Added up to some “wrong” notes! Now at 7 1/2 years old, he knows it’s better to sit behind the piano bench while she plays and let HER do all that hard work with the foot pedals! And Isaac knows the encore is his treat once the music time ends! (10/06)

IN MEMORY OF HANNAH, WHO CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN OCTOBER, 2011 AT AGE 13. Hannah has lived with her LRR family for 6 of her 8 years. She is very healthy, with her allergies controlled by medications and diet. After a quick trip outside each morning, Hannah enjoys her breakfast. While Mom is at work, she and younger Labbie brother Jake lounge on the couch and watch television! Mom’s return from work signals that it is time for dinner, followed by a walk. A weekend treat for Hannah is a swim in the Patuxent River! (10/06)

IN MEMORY OF NUGGET, WHO CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN JUNE, 2013 AT AGE 14. Nugget is another recent LRR adoptee. She is 7 years old and alternates between naps, playing, and helping around the house. A typical day starts with a walk soon after she wakes, then breakfast, then another nap, followed by some play time. Nugget helps her Daddy with house chores, and then guess what!?!? It’s time for another nap! Nugget plays, naps, works, naps all through the day—she really loves those naps! But mention a walk, and she’s awake and ready to head out the door. (9/06)

IN MEMORY OF MEL, WHO CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN JULY 2008, AT AGE 11. Mel was adopted just a few months ago when he was almost 9 years old. In excellent health, he is an early riser. He is up at 5:20 a.m. and ready for a walk and breakfast! Then he assists his mom while she gets ready for work. He’s in charge of the house all day while she is at work. When she’s back home, he has another walk and plays in the dog park with his friends. He gets a massage and biscuit before bed. Weekends are a favorite time – Mel hangs out with his neighborhood dog pals and plays fetch! (09/06)

Webster

Joined the LOL 9/2006

IN MEMORY OF WEBSTER. HE CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN FEBRUARY 2012, AT THE AGE OF 13. Webster is 7 years old and has lived with his current owners since early in 2002. He begins his day by scouting his yard for a bunny that lived next door several years ago. Then it’s breakfast and another yard patrol, followed by a nap and a romp with a toy. Webster’s family fosters Labbies for LRR and he has both another Lab and an Irish Water Spaniel as brothers. He never lacks for canine companionship. From wading in his pool, to strolls in the neighborhood, to visits to his Eastern Shore home, where he loves walks in the woods, Webster has lots of activities to occupy his days! (09/06)

Joined the LOL 8/2006

IN MEMORY OF MAGGIE, WHO CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN JULY, 2009, AT THE AGE OF 12. Maggie was adopted in 2001 when she was 4 years old. Now approaching the end of her first decade, Maggie is a little gray and a bit overweight, and she just finished treatment for Lyme disease. Her day starts with Mom prying her from the couch for a leisurely stroll in the park. While Mom works, Maggie rests, and is waiting by the window at 3:30 for Mom’s return - and dinner! Evenings bring another trip to the park and a cuddle with Mom. A special fall treat is chasing the waves in Rehoboth Beach or diving from a pier in Southern Virginia. Social butterfly Maggie also enjoys a visit to “Doggie Spa” - her grandparents’ home! (08/06)

Max

Joined the LOL 8/2006

Max (formerly known as Rocky) was adopted at age 2+ years from LRR in 2000. Max is one laid-back Lab: forget the outdoors, he prefers being indoors, relaxing in the company of his human siblings and Mama! He will venture outdoors IF the kiddie pool is filled and looks inviting. Then Max will roll around in the pool or chase the spray gun. Occasionally he will chase the birds off his 3 acres of yard. He figures that will earn his meals and daily treats in-between sleeping on his dog bed in the sun on cool, winter days or sleeping on the cool floor tiles on hot summer days. (08/06)

Kermit

Joined the LOL 8/2006

IN MEMORY OF KERMIT, WHO CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN AUGUST 2007, AT AGE 14. Kermit, at age 3+ years, was adopted from LRR in 1996. Kermit may hold the title for being the oldest (13+ years)Lab in the LOL! Kermit is a little slow to get started in the morning (just like a human actually) but still rises at 5 am EVERY day. He makes sure his owner gets up to get his exercise: a short walk in the yard. After taking a long nap during the day, Kermit is ready to play ball in the evening. He even lets his owner keep the ball so playtime goes quickly, leading to a delicious dinner! Kermit is such a great companion for his owners that they hope he lives to at least 21 years (dog years) of age! (08/06)

Sadie

Joined the LOL 8/2006

IN MEMORY OF SADIE, WHO CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN DECEMBER. 2008, AT THE AGE OFf NINE. Sadie was adopted in 2005 at age 6 from LRR. Sadie is a “gourmet” dog: on the green bean diet supplemented by raiding the cats’ dish of tasty morsels! Sadie has a busy daily schedule: up before sunrise, a short walk with her owner, a mid-day walk with the dog walker, another walk with her owner, then snoozing at her mom’s feet before the final night walk. Sadie loves bedtime: she plays “musical beds” as sleeps in all 3 dog beds. Of course the cats and other dog are pushed out of the bed that Sadie decides is the best place for sleeping! (08/06)

Loki

Joined the LOL 8/2006

IN MEMORY OF LOKI, WHO CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN OCTOBER, 2009, AT THE AGE OF ELEVEN. Loki was adopted in 2000 from LRR at age 2 years. He shares the house with Zoe, a yellow Lab. Occasionally, Loki will chase or be chased by Zoe. Loki prefers to relax for most of the day; he knows there will be an evening walk. Loki also goes for a morning walk every day as he needs the exercise to lose weight – he’s not willing to give up his doggie snacks! At age 8 1/2, his best feature is his nice, clean teeth. After all, Loki isn’t trying to be a movie star like Lassie! (08/06)

Jack

Joined the LOL 3/2006

IN MEMORY OF JACK, WHO CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE IN APRIL 2010, AT AGE 11. Jack and his owners recently joined the LRR volunteer family. He qualifies for LOL since he is over 7 years old. Jack is the expert at surfing the kitchen and lunch bag grubbing! Those “human” lunches have added to his middle so Jack is on the green-bean diet for Labs. Being on a diet, still frisky and ready to play, Jack will be a slimmed-down version of Lassie in the near future. He knows the importance of getting plenty of sleep and going on those outdoor walks. Jack also is a good-will ambassador: plenty of love/attention for visitors, neighbors, etc. All in all, Jack is one happy and healthy Lab. (03/06)
