Community Outreach 2013

Did you know that LRR does more than rescue, rehabilitate, and find homes for unwanted dogs? On this page you can find out more about just some of the things LRR is doing to help dogs throughout our community.


January

On January 5, 2013, LRR donated 15 Large Antlers to 15 working dogs who support and keep our Nation and area safe.

February

On February 5, 2013, LRR sent packages containing a supply of Frontline flea and tick prevention and 20th Anniversary bandannas to over 50 labs belonging to LRR’s Loyal Order of Labradors.

February 19th, LRR donated a gift card to Walmart to the dogs at the Caroline County Humane Society.

February 19th, LRR donated a gift card to Petsmart to the dogs at the Queen Annes Animal Care facility.

February 19th, LRR donated a gift card to Petsmart to the dogs at Loudoun County Care to support their outreach program.

February 22, 2013, LRR made a donation of dog food and a little cat food too to support those families in the Annapolis area trying to keep their pets with their families even in their difficult financial needs. LRR made the donation thru Food Link..

February 23, 2013, LRR made a donation to the [Fairfax Animeals] 9http://www.hsfc.org/org_animeal.php) program that supports area families with pets who are in need of a little support in this difficult economy.

March

March 2, 2013, LRR donated a Staples Gift Card to Baby Ready Pets.. Baby Ready Pets offers preparation and assistance to help expectant families prepare their home and their pets for the arrival of the new baby and to make sure that it is a safe and (relatively) stress-free experience for all.

March 5, 2013, LRR donated 12 heavy duty Carabinas to Operation Paws for Homes. OPH sends care packages to the Furry Service Members who are keeping our troops safe and working in combat zones. These “K-Packs” will be sent to the K-9 units in hopes of bringing a brighter day to both the K-9 Military members and their handlers. Military Working Dogs are veterans too. Let’s give these amazing dogs something that says we appreciate the work that they are doing while serving this great Country!

On March 8th, 2013, LRR donated a digital camera, memory card and case to PG County Animal Control to enable the facility to photograph lost, found and dogs in need of adoption.

April

On April 16th, LRR donated a gift card to Walmart to Karma Dogs. Karma Dogs was created as a way to give back to the community through the wet noses of therapy dogs. The Karma Dogs OK program was established after the senseless death of Phoenix, a pit bull puppy who was tortured by young men in Baltimore. By giving children something to be proud of, to be a part of, they will think twice before participating in violence towards any living thing. The Karma Dogs Oath of Kindness is intended to make children stop and actually think about how important it is to be kind to all animals.

On April 16th, LRR donated a gift card to Harford County Humane Society to support their Safe Haven program. The Safe Haven program provides families who are escaping a domestic abuse situation a safe place to bring their pets to get temporary foster care for their pet while they find a new safe place to live.

May

On May 30, 2013, LRR donated 14 bags of dog food to support those families in the Annapolis area trying to keep their pets with their families even in their difficult financial needs. LRR made the donation thru Food Link..

June

On June 8, 2013, LRR made a donation of toys and treats to the Baltimore Pets on Wheels Annual Silent Auction. Pets on Wheels of Baltimore brings therapy dogs and cats (even a bunny and even a tortoise) to retirement communities, hospitals, and assisted living and hospice care facilities across Central Maryland “to help lick loneliness” and improve morale of their patients.

On June 12, 2013, LRR donated bags of dog training treats to the Baltimore Child Abuse Center for the therapy dogs who visit the center to help children through emotionally difficult situations.

September

In September LRR Held a CGC test to evaluate Labradors to be awarded their Canine Good Citizen title. 11 Labbies attained this honor and CGC title.

On September 18th, LRR made a donation of dog food to support those families in the Annapolis area trying to keep their pets with their families even in their difficult financial needs. LRR made the donation thru Food Link.

October

In October, LRR was contacted by Loudoun Interfaith Relief to assist with their food pantry that was in need of donations. LRR donated 10 bags of dog food to support those residents in Loudoun county in need.

November

On November 1, 2013, LRR financially assisted a past adopter in the care of her older lab who was experiencing difficulties seeing and was diagnosed with Glaucoma.

On November 11, 2013, LRR donated a PetSmart gift card to PETS-Washington, DC, Inc. (PETS-DC), a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with HIV/AIDS and their companion animals.

On November 11, 2013, LRR donated a Staples gift card to purchase supplies in support of the Paws 4 Prisons program, based out of Loudoun County, Virginia, which trains prison inmates to train assistance dogs and shelter/rescue dogs for direct placement with service groups or for adoption in the community.

On November 11, 2013, LRR made a donation to the Prince William County, Virginia KIND program offered by the SPCA. Donations provide subscriptions for county classrooms to the KIND (Kids in Nature’s Defense) News, which encourages good character with an emphasis on kindness to animals and environmental responsibility.

December

On December 1st, LRR made a donation to Animal Advocates of Howard County, Maryland, which has a Humane Education program to teach dog safety topics to kids in schools, boy & girl scout troops and other kid organizations.

LRR sent a gift card to PAL Pet Loss comfort line to help owners cope with loss.
